Housing & Affordability
Rents in this city have exploded in recent years. I have lived that. I have moved across this city chasing rents I could afford and watched neighbors get pushed out of places they love. A neighborhood that cannot house the people who built it is not thriving, no matter how much it grows. Affordability and prosperity are not opposites. Getting that balance right is exactly what good policy is for, and I have spent three and a half years learning how to make it happen. I will fight to expand affordable housing, protect renters from predatory practices, and keep Providence a city where working people can afford to stay.
Public Education
The state takeover of Providence Public Schools is over, and the city is taking back one of its most consequential responsibilities. This is a moment that calls for steady, honest, unglamorous work on behalf of teachers and students. The council does not run the schools but it controls the resources that make them function, and I take that seriously. Teachers need supplies, support, and the conditions to do the work they were trained to do. Students need stability, consistency, and encouragment. I will always ask what is best for them first and let that answer drive everything else.
A City Hall That
Works For You
The people of Ward 1 deserve to feel their government working for them. Picked up trash. Maintained streets. A city hall that answers when you call and follows through when it says it will. Too much of what happens in city hall is invisible to the people it affects most. I will be your voice inside that building, but I will also be your eyes and ears in there, watching what happens, understanding why, and always coming back to tell you the truth. Government that actually serves its people.
Fiscal Honesty & Accountability
Residents just absorbed a major tax increase, money owed to our own school district after years of underfunding. This city has real financial obligations ahead, including a pension liability that will require hard choices made honestly, not just at election time, and the people paying the bills deserve someone who understands them. I have read the contracts. I have worked through the budgets. I know where the pressure points are. I will bring transparency to every public dollar spent on behalf of Ward 1, and my neighbors will always know what I know. I will never pretend the hard things are simple.
A Thriving, Inclusive Economy
Ward 1 is the economic heart of Providence, and I want to see it flourish. The I-195 innovation district, the waterfront, the theaters, the universities, the small businesses that have anchored our neighborhoods for decades, this is a ward with extraordinary dynamism. It is also a ward with some of the most beautiful and historically significant streets in New England, and that is not incidental to its prosperity, it is part of it. Growth and preservation have coexisted here for decades and I believe they can continue to. So can growth and affordability. These tensions are real but they are not irreconcilable, and finding the path through them, carefully, honestly, with everyone at the table, is exactly the kind of work I have been doing and intend to keep doing.
